Focusing on the first photo, the lighting comes from the left side, at a level even to Dan himself, allowing it to fall directly on his left side, creating the illumination shown. The shadows lay on the right side of his body, divided rather evenly across his face, with more dynamic shadows around the folds in his shirt. He's situated on a stool, and this specific shot originally had a thought bubble placed on the upper right hand side of the backdrop, which is the meaning behind the pose, aiming for a sort of "Thinker"-esque pose. He was facing front, towards two of our cameras (Kassie and myself) and we were both working to try and capture the right expression. While some of my photos lacked in quality or in eye-contact, this photo seemed to have the best of both worlds. In terms of positioning the camera, I held it horizontally a few feet away, and cut off the edges of the photo where the backdrop dropped off. The lighting was edited in Photoshop, messing with levels and curves, along with auto-color, in order to take out some of the redness created by the lighting, yet maintain the luminosity level of the original photo.
